Cate Blanchett to play Lilith in Borderlands film, to be directed by Eli Roth

Actress Cate Blanchett, famous for playing Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, will star in Lionsgate's adaptation of the Borderlands film. This has been confirmed by several sources to Variety, which announces that Blanchett will play Lilith, one of the six "Mermaids", women with incredible and mysterious powers.

The film is currently in the pre-production phase, but there is already a selected director: Eli Roth, author of horror films such as Toc Toc, Hostel or Cabin Fever. Craig Mazin, creator of the award-winning Chernobyl series, is responsible for the script. Interestingly, Mazin is also involved in another video game project, the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us.

Randy Pitchford, co-founder of Gearbox, serves as executive producer on the film, along with Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive. Avi Arad (producer of the Spider-Man movies) is also involved.

Little else is known about this project, which is waiting for the green light from Lionsgate (producer of The Hunger Games) to start shooting. Surely, things will not begin to move until after the havoc that the pandemic is causing, which in the world of cinema has forced to stop filming worldwide, has subsided.

The adaptations to video game cinema are gradually gaining pace, thanks to the success of films such as Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Movie, the difficulty has the strange honor of being one of the last blockbusters to be released before the COVID explosion- 19)

The Monster Hunter film is slated (although it may well be delayed) this year, and the summer of 2021 will feature the adaptation of Uncharted.
